Certification requirements

Fit to apply for certification is any person beyond the age of 16, regardless of sex, (permanent) residence, his/her mother tongue (native language), employment status (employed/unemployed) and formal qualifications. Obtaining the certificate, the NDT controller is entitled to provide the type of services stated in the certificate, and respecting the defined scope. The validity period of the certificate as per SIST EN ISO 9712 is 5 years. The certificate must be renewed before its expiration date. Should a candidate fail to do so, certification must be granted anew (examination resit being compulsory). The procedure of certification renewal is the sole responsibilty of the certificate holder.

10 years past the first certificication, the certificate holder is to retake the practical part of the examination, prior to the certificate expiry.

Certification procedure is clearly defined and a candide is to be acquainted with it beforehand.

Training

A candidate who applies for certification must first carry out training for individual methods. The training shall be conducted in the Training center approved by the accredited and notified certification body.

Eye tests to prove vision adequacy must be conducted and evidence submitted to the Center before the beginning of the training.

The table lists minimum duration of various types of trainings. Applying directly to certification level 2, entails adding up the two durations.

Certification application form

Certification application form is a document whereby a candidate defines the scope (s)he wishes to be certified for. Signing the form, the candidate confirms (s)he is familiar with the certification rules and procedures.

Stated in the form shall be the following data:

  • Name and surname
  • Address
  • Date and place of birth
  • Data about the employer
  • The type of method, a candidate is to be certified for
  • Evidence of formal qualifications
  • Information on NDT training
  • Evidence of visual adequacy

Attachments:

  • A copy of evidence to prove visual adequacy (health or optometrist certificate to prove compliance with SIST EN ISO 9712))
  • Certificate of formal qualifications (upon first certification)
  • A photograph in electronic form
  • The signed examination rules
  • The signed principles on professional ethics
  • The signed statement on the protection of personal data

Experience

The experience to be met prior to the certification is stated in the table below. Should you apply directly for level 2 certification, the experience for both levels is required. .

Personal data obtained during the certification procedure is treated as confidential; publically accessible is only a list of certified personnel (name and surname), stating the scope for which the certificate was issued, and the certificate number.

Examination

There are three parts to the examination, namely:

  • General written part (examination duration: 2 min/question),
  • Specialist written part (examination duration: 3 min/question),
  • Assessing practice (examination duration: 4 h).

The specialist part of the examination is taken against SIST EN ISO 9712 and then as per CP-189, as well.The table below states the number of questions required for a particular level.
